Advocacy before the Supreme Court for corpses found in the Ganga-Yamuna river amid the corona crisis
New Delhi: Cases of bodies thrown into rivers have been revealed in many parts of the country amid the corona outbreak crisis. Bodies floating in the river have been seen in several states of UP-Bihar. Now the case has reached court. A petition has been filed with the Supreme Court regarding the bodies found in the Ganga and Yamuna rivers in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Lawyer Vineet Jindal filed the petition. The petition said that fundamental rights, human rights, the right to health and the right to life, including the right to die with dignity, have been affected. The petition demanded that the government establish three-tier committees at central, state and rural levels to ensure bodies are cremated with dignity.
Recall that on May 15 and 16, the central government held a review meeting during which the central government learned of the dumping of corpses in the Ganges and its tributaries in the midst of the Corona epidemic.
The central government has called on Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to stop dumping bodies into the Ganges and its tributaries and to ensure a safe and dignified funeral. During this period, a letter was written to the chief secretaries to prevent the dumping of corpses into rivers and to ensure that the bodies of corona patients were cremated in accordance with environmental guidelines.
