Another mass cleaning in parts of the city
The residents of Rand West City have once again rolled up their sleeves to clean up the most neglected areas and those affected by fly tipping.
Wendy de Klerk, environmental manager and cleanup co-ordinator, said on Saturday May 28 that they had cleaned from Northway Road to and around Greenhills Stadium.
“We collected over 100 black bags full of trash, and we’re grateful to have about 50 people who sacrificed their Saturday mornings to make sure their environments were cleaned,” Wendy said.
Another volunteer, Kobie Myburgh, 61, said she was happy that locals had come together to clear the areas of waste that had been illegally dumped there.
People need to be aware that they can’t throw their rubbish everywhere. Our town is in serious need of a second landfill site, to alleviate the problem we are facing. We hope it inspires people to do good, not make it worse,” Kobie said.
Wendy thanked Truter, Crous & Wiggill; Oasis Water; NWK Kooperasia; Randgate Pharmacy; Butterfield Bakery; Tambotie Shopping Centre; and RWCLM for sponsoring the cleanup.
“We are definitely going to need more sponsors as our project grows, and anyone who wants to reach out is welcome to join us,” Wendy said.
