Brighton & Hove Albion v Swansea City –
Sports Mole presents Wednesday’s EFL Cup clash between Brighton & Hove Albion and Swansea City, including predictions, squad news and possible lineups.
Brighton and Hove Albion head in their EFL Cup third round tie with City of Swansea are looking to build on their excellent start to the Premier League campaign.
While the Seagulls are in the top four in the first tier of English football, Swansea is currently in 21st place in the championship.
If reports are to be believed, Tottenham Hotspur were among a number of clubs that opted not to pull the trigger when appointing Graham potter during summer.
However, their defeat was the gain of Brighton, with Potter and his team seemingly upping a level in the first five weeks of the season.
The Seagulls have been efficient on entertainment, scoring just seven goals in their four wins, but it has provided the club with a springboard for better things to come in 2021-22.
Potter has always taken a different approach to EFL Cup matches, many times appointing teams made up entirely of prospects and U23 players.
That said, with several of the players who played in the win over Cardiff City last month having since been loaned out, Potter may start to view this competition as one that his team could win.
Regarding Swansea, life under the new boss Russel martin has been a bit of a slow burner considering the success of its predecessor Steve cooper.
However, their astonishing return to Luton Town could serve as a much-needed catalyst, with the Welsh side battling a three-goal deficit at halftime.
Martin is unlikely to have many ambitions for this competition, but Wednesday night is a chance for some of his players to get back in shape and play without the pressures of the second tier.
Swansea reached this stage of the competition with complete victories over Reading and Plymouth Argyle respectively.

Potter will almost certainly make 11 changes to his Brighton XI, potentially giving the Tariq Lamptey after his recent return to the substitutes’ bench.
Jakub Moder could replace the left rear, while Hayddon roberts and Taylor richards should feature in center-back and center midfield respectively.
With Andi Zeqiri being recently released on loan, Aaron Connolly is online to lead the attack.
While Martin doesn’t make as many changes as his counterpart, he will likely be looking to make new legs in several areas.
Ben Cabango, Joël Latibeaudiere, Korey smith, Jay fulton and Yan Dhanda are among the players who could feature at Amex Stadium.
Brighton & Hove Albion possible starting line-up:
Steele; Lamptey, Roberts, Burn, Moder; Mwepu, Alzate, Richards; Gross, Connolly, Mac Allister
Possible starting line-up from Swansea City:
Benda; Cabango, Latibeaudière, Williams; Laird, Smith, Fulton, Manning; Dhanda, Whittaker; Piroé
We say: Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1 Swansea City
Despite the likelihood that changes will be made to this competition, we still expect Brighton to be successful in this game. Swansea has the potential to surprise, but the competition for places should inspire a solid performance from Seagulls.
