Ekiti LG Boss warns residents against open defecation
1 The Chairman of Moba Local Government Area in Ekiti, Mr. Oriyomi Adeoye, on Tuesday warned residents against indiscriminate defecation and dumping garbage in the environment.
2 Adeoye gave the warning in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria to Otun-Ekiti.
3 He said the current rainy season challenges everyone to keep their surroundings clean and tidy to curb the spread of infectious diseases.
4 Adeoye warned residents to stop the indiscriminate dumping of rubbish down sewers or open defecation to reduce the spread of diseases such as cholera and malaria, among other illnesses
“I want to warn the people of Otun-Ekiti and communities under Moba local government area to refrain from defecating in the environment.
5 “We are already in the rainy season where excreta and waste thrown down drains or bushes do not dry or burn easily and the havoc this will cause will affect other residents.
6 “State and local governments have educated residents about the inherent dangers of open defecation and indiscriminate dumping, but some residents aren’t listening.
seven “From now on, any individual or household who chooses not to have a decent toilet and prefers to defecate in the bushes or in the environment will be sanctioned,” he said.
8 Adeoye said environmental health officers will travel to communities and any resident who violates state environmental law will be disciplined.
