Carpenters in Sokoban Timber Village have been warned to refrain from randomly dumping waste wood used in their work.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) would ruthlessly treat any carpenter caught throwing sawdust into the sewers, as such unhealthy practices pose serious environmental problems, he warned.
Mr. Bassanyin, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), on the sidelines of a clean-up exercise at the timber enclave in Sokoban, said carpenters were expected to adhere to bylaws relating to the environmental sanitation related to their work.
The exercise, held under the supervision of the KMA, aimed to ensure that workers in the enclave operated in a clean and healthy environment to keep the place in good repair at all times.
The director of environmental health and sanitation observed that carpenters and related workers in the village, such as food vendors, should not engage in practices that tended to cause flooding and disease. transmissible.
He advised workers to always wear their protective equipment while working, as continued inhalation of sawdust could have adverse effects on their health.
Mr. James Prempeh, head of the environment and sanitation sub-committee, KMA, assured that the Assembly was committed to ensuring a good maintenance of the village.
He warned the workers that the Assembly would not hesitate to apply the law to those who used the road as a place to store their wood since this practice tends to create confusion in the Village.
“Those who engage in this practice have been given until June 1, 2021 to eliminate the nuisance,” he said.
Mr. Abubakar Halifa, coordinator of the village of Sokoban Wood, called on the government to repair the main road leading to the enclave in order to improve their activities.
He also appealed to the KMA to strengthen the security system in the village for the safety of carpenters.
